about

This album was recorded throughout 2012, released originally through Tunecore on December 18, 2012, and re-released through CD Baby on December 17, 2013. During my month in the studio, I was listening to three of my biggest influences (at the time): Spitalfield, Maroon 5, and Jimmy Eat World.

“The Girl Next Door” was one of the hardest songs I’ve ever written. I can’t tell you how many times I went back to the song to change something. It went through a ridiculous amount of revisions before finding its way to its current state. This song is was written from the point of view of my ex-girlfriend, all while comparing the movie “The Girl Next Door” to my friend Kevin Ivey’s childhood. This song was influenced heavily by James Brown, Doo Wop, All American Rejects, the Nickelodeon show “Victorious”, The Beach Boys, and ambient worship music.

“Friday Night” is about a summer romance. It is unclear what will happen to the relationship when summer is over. These summer flings can become captivating and stressful if they are not handled properly. The song was mainly influenced by blink-182, Eric Clapton, and European dance music.

“Lead You On” is an in your face rock track made especially for those who are more fond of Hip-Hop and Rap. The song is about a relationship that never really existed to begin with, aside from the fact that the two involved were using each other. The chorus then splits from this theme, pleading for a reconnection of some type. It was influenced heavily by Rage Against the Machine.

“All These Monsters” is a song about forming habits that create idols. It is about being so far involved in something that it is difficult to see a way out. The idea is that these idols and addictions become monsters that are tough to overcome. If you have been in this situation, or know anyone who has, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Habits are hard to break and take at least a month to fully expel. This song was mainly influenced by Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Led Zeppelin.

Track Name: Back In My Head
5 pm and I’ve been ready for the show (woah oh)
Spend another hour as we’re waiting to go (woah oh)
Check my phone again, i see you say you’re on your way (woah oh)
The problem is you’re not the girl that I’d expect to see

She was all that I had ever even thought about
You grabbed hold and now I know what I was wrong about
Think again, you can’t make it go away,
Every single thing I said before

Cause you’re the wrong girl, at the wrong time, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head
I had it all planned, everything was fine, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head

See the lights, I see them bright, they shine around me here
But it won’t matter when you leave again for one more year
There you go and I’ll head west for brighter pastures soon
I won’t come back and I’ll adopt another attitude
Toss and turn, live and learn, the truth is in yourself,
Here we go, it’s a show, time to burn it down
Ride the tide, pick your sides, woah woah oh

You’re the wrong girl, at the wrong time, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head
I had it all planned, everything was fine, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head
I thought I’d never think about, the one who only left, but you’re back in my head
Cause you’re the wrong girl, at the wrong time, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head

You’re the wrong girl, at the wrong time, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head
I had it all planned, I had it all planned, I had it all planned
I had it all planned, everything was fine, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head
I thought I’d never think about, the one who only left, but now you’re back in my head
Cause you’re the wrong girl, at the wrong time, but now you’re back in my head, you’re back in my head

Track Name: The Girl Next Door
VERSE 1: I know, when it’s my time to go, Your look, when I’m outta control, Subtle, yet enough to disclose (THE GIRL NEXT DOOR x2)

Why rush, what we’re feeling inside, Let’s wait, for the look in your eyes, It’s still, just the time of our lives

So done with chasing you, all this time, every time, Expecting new results with the same lines, all my lines

And it feels good, but it’s not right, there is no way, I can justify, So done with chasing you, all this time, every time

VERSE 2: Led on, but I’m feeling it more, Beat up, but I’ll settle the score, It hurt, when your time was a chore (THE GIRL NEXT DOOR x2)

Too late, by a minute again, quickly, turning into a trend, Who knows, maybe this is the end (THE GIRL NEXT DOOR x2)
Track Name: All These Monsters
“All These Monsters”
VERSE 1: I can’t tell you where to go, and I won’t make the long drive home, All these monsters that I feed, and in the end, it’s what I need, Nights is keeping me awake, As I await to find my fate, Always looking back until I see the future

VERSE 2: I’ve had time to watch my faults, more deceptive than I thought, Fooling me with false arrest, I won’t take another step, This feeling puts its hands on me, And only then do I believe, Always looking back until I see the future

I want it, can’t you see me, Not sure if I’m still breathing, It’s time I, start believing, You’ve all been so misleading

VERSE 3: I’ve been lost for much too long, leaving places I call home, Appreciating decency, but my submission’s killing me, Yes, I like to think its fair, And that it happens everywhere, Always looking back until I see the future
Track Name: Friday Night
verse 1: i’m dating her, she’s dating him, does anyone see this problem
the summer comes, i’m not home, you think that this would solve them
arriving home, pick up the phone, i see your name flash across the screen
what does this mean, another summer, will it be useless, will i forget her
pre chorus: It’s Friday night, is this goodbye or maybe just for now
it’s friday night, i guess we’ll have to wait for next summer

chorus: we both wrote this last summer, they know that we were meant for
each other its no secret, please tell me you won’t keep it now

verse 2: hello friend, we meet again, this time let’s take things real slow
phone rings again, it’s my girlfriend, no baby, i’m still working
tomorrow, though, i will go, i turn to you, my world falls apart
i’ve made my choice, and she’s made hers, don’t worry let’s just do this

bridge: will you be here, right here for me?
Track Name: Lead You On
VERSE 1: We were finding satisfaction in the summer and the heat, Was the strangest of attractions when she laid her eyes on me, I never saw it coming, but it had it’s way with me, Brought the truth into the future, making good on all my needs

Lead, lead you on

VERSE 2: It was new and we were famous, blending in with all the art, Brought the justice down upon us from the bottom of their hearts, Finding I was honest, it was easy in the end, Making trades without a promise, shaking hands with all our friends

Lead, lead you on

I want to have you, I’ve got no doubt

We’ve got our problems, let solve them now

VERSE 3: We’ve been alone for much too long, and I can barely see the finish, Move along, move along, there’s a fire to extinguish, Running for our lives, it was out to come and get us, Grabbed our things, pack it in there’s a way we can defeat this

Lead, lead you on

BRIDGE: The many times we’ve almost died, we’re so far gone inside, something just ain’t right, The visions I’ve begun to see, making so much sense to me, I can barely breathe
